Last May, while the annual seal slaughter was under way in Canada, we posted a PETA petition to urge Prime Minister Trudeau to stop the commercial slaughter of seals.
Sadly, despite international criticism, nothing has changed and this cruel practice starts again tomorrow on 9th April 2018.
India is the latest country to join the long list of countries – including all 28 of the EU, the US, Mexico, Taiwan and Russia – that have banned the import of seal-derived products.
However, while demand for seal products is clearly dwindling, the brutal killing of seals in Canada continues year after year.
Seals are bludgeoned or shot before being skinned. Many are still conscious as they’re dragged along by metal-hooked clubs called hakapiks, which are impaled in seals’ cheeks or eyes.
You can help put an end to this senseless slaughter. Urge the Canadian government to stop subsidizing this commercial seal hunt.
